Introduction:Goldman Sachs, a world famous investment bank, entered Japan in 1969. It quickly established itself as a major foreign investment bank in Japan.

Since then it has assisted and advised government, corporations, financial institutions inmatters relating to finance, mergers and other transactions. In addition to its role as an advisor, the Investment bank had been actively engaged in buying and selling the loss-making companies.

Many people of the country, from politicians to bureaucrats, had however criticised Goldman Sachs' role as an investment banker. They alleged that the investment bank was functioning more like a private-equity firm rather than as an investment bank.
